Recognition of our mission

It took a year, but we got it—this recognition. I’m talking about our registered charity status granted by the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency). What does this recognition mean, in a few words? It’s simple. We can now issue charitable tax receipts for all donations made to the Humanity Index.

But beyond this essential benefit for an organization like ours, this recognition affirms the relevance of our mission and the validity of our project. In addition to informing and raising public awareness about humanistic values and concepts, we also have an educational responsibility aimed at improving our behavior.

This responsibility is expressed, among other things, through the Being Human movement, which is primarily focused on behavior. By working on our behavior, we realize that humanity is not an abstract concept beyond our reach and control, but quite the opposite. We are all part of humanity, and we each have a role to play, no matter how small.

Humanity starts with each of us and is expressed first through simple, respectful, and kind daily behaviors toward those around us.

There’s no point in looking up at the mountain’s peak and thinking it’s too high, that the slope is too steep. Let’s start by taking one step, then another, and another, telling ourselves that with each step, we get closer to the goal—we improve our own situation, but above all, that of the people around us.

That’s what humanity is, in many ways. It’s also our mission.
