Let’s change the future

14 Oct. / 2024 / Indice

This Index will start a necessary debate for our future, especially our children’s.

In a world distracted by armed conflicts, massive migration, climate change, the emergence of disruptive technologies, and mass citizen frustration manifesting itself in the far left and far right, our times call for better methods to inspire a better future.

Over my forty years of surveys and analyses of Quebecers, Canadians, Americans, and others worldwide, I’ve observed and identified different trends to understand social movements and emerging issues and predict their trajectories.

In this reflection, and after contributing to the Happiness Index, here is this Humanity Index, a natural evolution. Thinking about oneself is good; thinking about others is better because our happiness comes in large part from our humanity, our generosity, and our openness and tolerance towards others. It also comes from our democratic promise to search for the truth. This is what we measured with this Index.

The Humanity Index, designed by Pierre Côté, was developed in collaboration with Leger’s researchers and is an essential and innovative tool. It allows us to measure the road we have left to run to attain our common goals. This Index evaluates where our collective humanity stands for the first time. Unsurprisingly, it shows that we still have a long way to go. It also highlights the urgency to pick up our sleeves and ensure that our humanity reaches an acceptable level.

Ambitious and audacious, the Humanity Index is the first of its kind on a global scale. At Leger, we like to innovate and firmly believe that this Index will start a necessary debate for our future, especially our children’s.

Some people have stopped believing in it, moving swiftly from denial to spite. We haven’t. There is still time to leave the earth in a better state than the one we inherited.

Are you up for the challenge?
