Because It’s Necessary

we can intervene and improve the image that our humanity reflects back to us, bringing it closer to our ideal.

A Humanity Index—do we need one? We believe so, and we are not alone. Since the recent U.S. elections on November 5, this index has become even more relevant because our humanity will likely be shaken, and we will feel its tremors here, whether we like it or not.

The Humanity Index is certainly an ambitious project. Its impact will be felt more in the medium and long term, as information is published, credibility is earned, and recognition and influence are built. However, among the 14 dimensions evaluated, several are already within our reach, allowing us to take action—especially in the area with the greatest impact on our humanity: generosity. It’s already a great starting point. The research report will provide you with more insights into the different results of this survey. It is available here: https://humanityindex.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Humanity-Index_Report_English-version-VF-21-10-2024.pdf

Over the years, humanity has always acted as a safeguard for different civilizations, serving both as protection against forces that wish to enslave it and as a constant ideal to strive for. But nothing is ever perfect, and nothing ever will be—this is a certainty. Humans being what they are, our humanity will always reflect who we are. It will fluctuate with the currents and trends. Nevertheless, we can intervene and improve the image that our humanity reflects back to us, bringing it closer to our ideal.

An Index, But Also a Movement

How? By improving ourselves. By looking around us to see what we can do to make our environments better and our relationships more harmonious. This goal is within everyone’s reach—but it requires effort. Like happiness, the humanity we hope for will not come without work. And magical thinking belongs… to magic.

This is precisely why we created the Being Human movement: to allow for concrete actions and to encourage more humanistic behaviors. All of these behaviors, among the 14 suggested, are linked to one of the 14 dimensions of the index. We invite you to take the test and receive your evaluation on a scale: https://humanityindex.ca/being-human-movement/14-commitments-being-human-movement/

The Humanity Index and the Being Human movement: two solutions to improve our humanity.

Humanity is us, together.

Thank you.
